sam richards is a sculptor, designer, and fabricator with 30 years of experience. his works employ a broad range of materials, where this cross knowledge of multiple mediums allows a dimension that makes his products unique. sam approaches design as a sculptor, not as an architect. his projects provide singular solutions to varied programs, infusing originality in the way spaces are modified, utilized and economically executed. after growing up in new york and graduating from the cooper union, sam moved to new orleans nearly twenty years ago. since that time he has worked on renovations of historic buildings, furniture design, and specialized projects for commercial spaces, in addition to producing and exhibiting sculpture. sam is an associate assistant professor at the tulane school of architecture where he has directed the wood working/metal working shop for fourteen years. he is currently working with bryon and emilie on the tulane’s URBANbuild.designBUILD program.
