this residence was designed for a landscape architect client in response to a growing interest in repurposing shipping containers. in this scheme, three standard length metal containers are arranged in a composition that defines a variety of rooftop and lower-level deck and garden spaces. while containers can function well for one to two people at a time, they do not tend to serve as well for communal activities. thus, the predetermined size of the containers led to the location of more intimate, private spaces within the container volumes and necessitated design of a larger, more public living space enclosed within a translucent cladding system.
